Book Description

The concept of being able to study physiology in vivo by techniques which are rapid and non-traumatic must surely be one of the most exciting possibilties in diagnostic medicine today. It has become increasingly clear that the diagnostic procedures of radiology and nuclear medicine are complementary rather than competitive, the former providing data primarily on anatomic configuration, and the latter, data relating to organ function or tracer metabolism. Units Cover: The Concept; Imaging Systems and Their Limitations; Calibration Requirements; Data Acquisition and Storage Systems; Data Processing and Hardware; REsolution Enhancement; Display Methods; Clinical Applications; The Future.

Book Description

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Society of Nuclear Medicine, or SNM, based in Reston, Virginia, is a nonprofit organization founded in 1954. There are 16,000 members: physicians, pharmacists, and scientists, except for a separate section of 10,000 technologists. Recently, it has shifted focus from nuclear medicine to molecular imaging. SNM publishes the Journal of Nuclear Medicine and the Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology. The organization has a staff of approximately 50 employees; the current CEO is Virginia Pappas. There is a rather complex governance structure made up of a house of delegates and board of directors as well as committees for various functions. SNM’s plenary session meets at its annual meeting, held in different venues; these have included Salt Lake City, New Orleans, Toronto, Washington, DC, and California, among others. The group also organizes a mid-winter meeting.

Book Description

This marvellous CD-ROM set is a teaching guide for those interested in cardiac nuclear medicine, whether as instructor or trainee. With well over 300 cases, Dr Jain has selected 20 for each CD-ROM. These first two CD-ROMs in the series offer cases covering all aspects of coronary artery disease, chronic heart failure and some valvular disorders; each case examines: patient presentation (e.g. 50-year-old diabetic male presented with chest pain etc), EKG, raw nuclear images, gated nuclear images, evaluation of tests, and discharge of the patient. The superbly reproduced images will prove a definite boon to those preparing for certification examinations or just beginning to work in cardiac nuclear medicine.

Book Description

The book has several notable strengths that are appealing to radiology residents, such as its succinct and well-organized overview of the topic. To help residents identify cases that they are likely to encounter during board exams and in practice, Dr. Swischuk selected excellent plain film examples from his personal collection that illustrate the conditions he discusses and reflect his emphasis on cervical radiography. The illustrated cases also include CT and MR images that clarify and qualify the plain film findings. Helpful reference lists complete each chapter and guide residents to resources for further reading. In addition, Dr. SwischukÆs direct writing style makes the complex content highly accessible, providing imaging residents with an invaluable introduction to pediatric cervical spine radiology.

Book Description

This volume, which explains why, when, and how abdominal MRI should be used, focuses in particular on the most recent developments in the field. After introductory chapters on technical considerations, protocol optimization, and contrast agents, MRI of the various solid and hollow viscera of the abdomen is addressed in a series of detailed chapters. Relevant clinical information is provided, and state of the art protocols presented. With the help of numerous high-quality illustrations, normal, variant, and abnormal imaging findings are described and potential artefacts highlighted. Differential diagnosis is given extensive consideration, and comparisons are made with competing methodologies when relevant. Each of the chapters is rounded off by a section on “pearls and pitfalls”. The closing chapters focus on findings in the pediatric abdomen, advances in MRI specifically relevant to cancer patients, and the use of abdominal MRI at 3 Tesla. This book, written by leading experts, will be of value to all who are involved in learning, performing, interpreting, and reporting abdominal MRI examinations.

Book Description

The imaging methods used to evaluate patients with suspected vertebral injuries have undergone radical changes in the past decade, the most significant being the ascendancy of computed tomography (CT) to become the primary investigative modality. Issues such as high radiation dose associated with CT studies and health care reform and cost containment also have a significant impact on clinical decision-making. This new edition of the classic landmark text for vertebral trauma imaging provides an in-depth discussion on the indications and methods of imaging the spine based on currently available clinical evidence. Every chapter has been extensively revised and the illustrations represent state-of-the-art imaging. A completely new chapter on pediatric injuries has been added. Imaging of Vertebral Trauma, third edition, is an invaluable and essential tool in the assessment of any patient with suspected vertebral or spinal cord injury.
